Hornpin Media Group is negotiating with Matthew Cox to purchase the film rights to “Cash & Coke,” his true-crime article featured in the digital Inside True Crime Magazine. The proposed adaptation would bring a story of armed robberies, family loyalty and police corruption to the big screen.

The article follows Robert “Snoop” George III and his half brother, Devell Hawkins, who robbed drug dealers throughout Florida. According to their accounts, their operation became more lucrative when corrupt narcotics deputy Roderick “Mouse” Stevenson supplied targets and promised protection from investigations. The brothers stole cash and cocaine, then sold the narcotics back into the underworld they were robbing.

Cox opens the story with a home invasion yielding more than half a million dollars in cash and cocaine. Behind that score lies a dangerous arrangement: two brothers trusting an officer whose badge could protect them, but whose secrets could threaten everyone involved. Cox developed the article through interviews with the brothers while serving his own federal prison sentence.

The potential film has the appeal of Heat meets Training Day, combining the tension of major robberies with the moral compromises of corrupt policing. Its dramatic possibilities extend beyond the crimes themselves to the brothers’ relationship and their dependence on a partner operating inside law enforcement.

Hornpin is also believed to be discussing the project with Caleb McLaughlin, known for playing Lucas Sinclair in Stranger Things and starring in Concrete Cowboy, and Myles Frost, the Tony Award winner who portrayed Michael Jackson in Broadway’s MJ.

Cox’s popular Inside True Crime podcast has expanded the audience for his articles and books, giving prospective film partners both compelling source material and viewers already invested in his storytelling. His interviews bring criminal personalities and experiences to life, helping producers see their potential for adaptation. Hornpin’s interest in “Cash & Coke” illustrates how that exposure can turn a published story into a prospect for Hollywood development.

Hornpin founder Kevin Cooper established the company after acquiring a film option on Everett De Morier’s Thirty-Three Cecils, building around an interest in adapting literature.

For Cox, the negotiations represent another potential step from prison writing to entertainment development. A completed agreement would allow Hornpin to pursue a screenplay, financing and production.
