Suspect Arrested After Woman Escapes Alleged White Oak Bayou Attack

HOUSTON — A 19-year-old Houston man is in custody after authorities say he attacked a woman along White Oak Bayou and attempted to drown her before she fought back and escaped. The incident occurred Monday evening near the 7000 block of Bent Branch Drive in northwest Houston.

 According to Harris County Precinct 1 Constable Alan Rosen, the woman was walking along the bayou around 6:30 p.m. when she was allegedly assaulted. Investigators say the suspect attacked the woman near the water and attempted to force her into the bayou. Despite the violent encounter, the victim managed to resist, escape the scene, and flag down nearby deputies for help. She was later transported to a hospital for treatment.

Deputies immediately began searching the area while the victim received medical care. Investigators canvassed nearby neighborhoods and gathered information from residents who reported seeing a man matching the suspect's description riding a bicycle through the area. Authorities also learned that another woman had reported an unsettling encounter with the same individual earlier that evening.

The suspect was later identified as Jacoby Isiah Fuselier, 19. According to investigators, residents spotted Fuselier in the area several hours after the attack and notified law enforcement. Deputies located him shortly after midnight Tuesday, but authorities say he attempted to flee before being taken into custody. Officers ultimately subdued and arrested him after a brief pursuit.

Investigators say evidence recovered during the arrest strengthened the case against Fuselier. Authorities reported that he was found in possession of items belonging to the victim and had injuries consistent with the victim's account of the struggle. Officials said the woman scratched his face and pulled out some of his hair while fighting for her life.

At present, Fuselier has been charged with evading arrest, though investigators say additional charges are expected as evidence is reviewed and presented to prosecutors. Rosen stated that the Harris County District Attorney's Office will determine the most appropriate charges once the investigation is complete.

Authorities are also examining whether the suspect may be connected to other incidents reported in multiple jurisdictions. The investigation remains ongoing.

Law enforcement officials praised the victim's determination and emphasized the importance of remaining alert while using trails and bayou pathways. They encouraged residents to walk with companions when possible and to report suspicious behavior immediately.
